This purple peacock pattern was unveiled after the orange variation, and its design was slightly different. The scheme was highlighting the Yunnan specifity while blending in the China Eastern brand. China Eastern Yunnan is indeed the second largest stand-alone unit of China Eastern after its Shanghai unit; it is the only unit to consistently display distinctive markings: Yunnan enterprise titles (雲南公司) appear in Chinese only on each of its aircraft. Back in the days of the first MU scheme, it was a green Yunnan peacock feather (the logo of China Yunnan Airlines).
The
peacock is commonly used as a symbol in the
Yunnan province. In Chinese decorative art, the peacock symbolizes dignity and beauty. Note B-5756 also had small "1000th Boeing for China" decals.
